To enjoy colorful flames in your fireplace, soak pine cones for 10 minutes in one of the appropriate chemical solutions here. Use one pound of chemical to a gallon of water. After soaking, hang them to dry. Toss a few into the flames for a flashy fire.
Use only in an enclosed fireplace. Remember to use extreme caution when dealing with fire and chemicals.
The chemicals and associated hues are:
- Orange – calcium chloride
- Blue – cupric chloride
- Green – copper sulfate
- Red – lithium chloride
To get a rainbow color scheme, use four pounds of copper sulfate and three pounds of rock salt for every gallon of water.
